第一堂英文課

因為蒐集評估工具的任務,所以需要寫信給其他文獻的作者,趁著Lynn的英文詢問老師英文信應該如何書寫。

原先我打的草稿:
Dear Dr. Masafumi Mizuno,
I am a research assistant from National Taiwan University,1.Yun-Jer Shieh.My research team leading by Dr.Ching Lin Hsieh is aiming to 2. develop "Computerized Adaptive Testing of Interpersonal Problem-solving Skills,CATips" for schizophrenia.
For this program,we need to 3.contain many 4.contexts which schizophrenia clients face.
Over all the papers I 5.reviewed,I found the assessment "Mean-Ends Problem Solving(MEPS)" from your research "Social cognitive problem-solving in schizophrenia:
Associations with fluency and verbal memory" in 2005 very useful.
We wish to refer this assessment to 6.bulid the 7.questions for our 8.topic.
9.May I have the opportunity to get the10. full version assessment ?11.

後來老師修改後的版本:

        For this program, we need to collect many interpersonal contexts which schizophrenia clients face.
        Over all the papers I have reviewed, I found the assessment "Mean-Ends Problem Solving(MEPS)" from your research "Social cognitive problem-solving in schizophrenia: Associations with fluency and verbal memory" in 2005 very useful.
        We wish to refer to this assessment to construct the item bank for our research.
        Would it be possible for you to provide us with the full version of the assessment “Mean-Ends Problem Solving(MEPS)"?  If possible, we would be grateful if you could send the file to 12.us.

黃色處為老師修改的部分:
1.因為文末即有說我是誰,所以文中就可以不必再放一次

2.針對CATips,他是一個研究計畫,研究計畫不會是"develop"而是"conduct",若要堅持使用develop,則後方對應的名詞則要修改為"一件事"
   在英文中,動詞與名詞是有相對應的關係的,讀期刊時需要特別留意

3."contain"是包含,但是我要寫的想法是蒐集,所以"collect"較佳

4.要告訴人家是"什麼樣的情境",所以要加上"形容詞"

5.時態問題,需用過去完成式

6.我想要表達是建構,老師表示bulid有點奇怪,用construct較佳

7.需要建構的是題庫,而不是題目,所以不可以用question,用databasec或是item bank皆可

8.應該要用我們的研究our research,而非主題topic--需再與英文老師詢問為什麼?

9.May I xxx應該改成更有禮貌的寫法,就像要跟媽媽要100萬一樣,不會說"媽,給我一百萬"而會說"媽,最近還好嗎,如果方便的話,我想跟你借錢",所以可以試試Would it be possible "

10.因為前面廢話太多,所以要再強調一次"要拿的東西",所以需補上全名

11.原本的說法是"可以請你提供給我這份工具嗎?"但是如果對方回覆"可以。"就沒下文了怎麼辦,所以應該要明確地說出,我想要你做的是什麼,同時也要有禮貌,所以 "If possible, we would be grateful if you could send the file to us."

12.通篇的主詞要一致,如果是I就要用me,信中寫的是我們團隊所以要用us
